Why should you consider trying out for Marching Band? Ask a member of the band. Members of the band take away much more than they realize they put in. Besides growing in their ability as musicians and performers, Marching Band members learn to work together as a team. Members support each other, look out for the younger students and act as mentors for new members. They learn community involvement and what it takes to bring out the best in themselves. Members overcome the physical and mental demands of a competition program. But it's such a HUGE committment. Is it really? Band practices twice per week, generally in the evenings, during our fall season. In the summer, we meet for six days of band camp . During the competition season, we generally compete 5 times, plus finals in our region. Then, if we are successful enough, the band will travel to Allentown in November to compete at the Atlantic Coast Championships. This is a tremendous honor and a wonderful experience for students. Additionally, Marching Band Members qualify for the annual band trip. In the past, we have traveled to Disney World, Myrtle Beach, Williamburg, Virginia and New Orleans. Winter Guard finals are held in May at Wildwood, New Jersey. Not sure if it is for you? Come to watch a practice or join us for the spring Memorial Day Parade. Talk to one of the band members or directors. We will be happy to answer your questions. |
